Die urspr\u00fcngliche Befestigung erm\u00f6glichte eine Neigung des Gewehrs, doch bald wurde sie durch eine feste Befestigung ersetzt, da die Piloten lernten, das gesamte Flugzeug auf das Ziel auszurichten und mithilfe der \u00e4u\u00dferst reaktionsschnellen Steuerungen die beste Leistung aus dieser wendigen Maschine herauszuholen. Insgesamt wurden etwa 400 Flugzeuge produziert, und ab Fr\u00fchjahr 1916 trug die D.H.2 ma\u00dfgeblich dazu bei, die \u201eFokker-Plage\u201d zu besiegen und damit den Briten die Luft\u00fcberlegenheit zu verschaffen. Mangels eines Ersatzes blieb dieser Typ bis Mitte 1917 im Einsatz.
