Gibbons wrote that when he visited the Richthofen home in Schweidnitz he came across a photo of two burned corpses. On the back was written, apparently by Richthofen: ‘My 41st D.D. two-seater, 12 cyl.Beadmore (sic) motor. Two occupants dead. Shot down and burned on the electric wires on April 13, 1917, about ten o’clock in the morning at the canal between Brebières and Vitry.’ These comments suggest the possibility, albeit remote and unusual, of electrocution as the cause of death.
